Basic Settings are needed: widgets, sidebar, archive pages, fontawesome

Hello,

This could well be user error or confusion about what and where things are but here goes.
  • widgets
    • Can I affect widgets with normal Wordpress widgets?
  • sidebar
    • Can I remove "latest comments" navigation in the sidebar from the blog ?
  • archive pages
    • In the archive pages I am getting the loader and the featured image never displays. I suspect this is the slide option doing this. Can I turn off the slider option for excerpts in archive pages? I just want the featured image to display here.
  • fontawesome
    • All of the arrows from fontawesome are not displaying. I looked in typography settings and all over the Nimva options but found nothing that could be the reason this is not working.
    • Image broken
      • I insert images in the typical Wordpress fashion and Nimva inserts "-290x300" in every image. This breaks the image. When I take that out the image displays. This couldn't have been your intention.
Thank you in advance for your help. With the answers to/solutions for these 4 items I can successfully launch the customer's website.

Is there anyone that can help? I know these are small things but I really can't see where to affect them.

Hello,

Thank you for your message, but why not share your site with us so we can also have a look at what you are using.

Not sure what you mean with the Widgets question??

I would recommend checking the actual docs for WordPress widgets and how they work. Widgets can be added, deleted, edited under Appearance -> Widgets area - this is actually basic Wordpress functionality.

Fontawesome will display correctly unless you are using plugins that can override the basic functionality.

Nimva does not overwrite any images. Please share the exact page where the images are appearing broken, it's a bit hard to understand/imaging what exactly you are using.

Thanks,
Stef

Stef,

https://hvia.org is the site.

So much of what I've done to make the site launchable is most likely due to the custom code you cited and I have since deleted. I could probably go back to the standard installation of NIMVA and al would be fine.

I actually commented out fontawesome loading. I was getting a CORS error. I didn't want to do this but to get the site launched I felt it was the only way. I also replaced some CSS so elements fontawesome was supposed to display were either replaced by other characters/images or I hid them.

For widgets, when I go to the widgets area in the admin there is no ability to add/edit/delete widgets. I assume this is not the intended behavior for NIMVA. The widgets admin area is blank.

I've modified the slider for entry images just to get the site launched. It was only ever displaying the loader. I assume with the offending custom code deleted this might work fine. I may test this in the future.

Hi again,

Widgets are a basic WordPress functionality and are always handled under Appearance -> Widgets area - this is unrelated to the theme being used, the widgets will always be modified in that section.
